Backup your databases from cpanel

Backup your databases from cpanel

Something I have learn’t recently is that you shouldn’t just rely on wordpress’ automatic database backup system. You know the function that emails you the database everyday, week or whatever. Well it didn’t work for me and some of you may noticed all the posts from september 21st to 24th were lost.

Anyway here is a quick guide on how to backup and restore your databases from your cpanel account.

1. Log into your cpanel account. (www.yourdomain.com/cpanel) and click on the button that says ‘backups’
2. Click on download mysql database and select your databse for example for me its ’skateass_wrdp1′
3. To simply reupload the database, click the choose button on the right hand side, browser for your database and click upload.
4. You then need to go back into your home cpanel and click on the mysql databases button, and if its not already created, create a user with the name of your database extension. For example if my database is skateass_wrdp1 my user will just be wrdp1. You then need to assign the user to your database, using the drop down box below.

I recommend you backup your database every two days or every after post or page you write.
