Firefox Minefield - Redefining the browser battle
Reports indicate Minefield is the fastest browser!
Although still in pre-alpha stage, reports indicate that the new web browser currently under development by Mozilla, (the same guys that brought you the original firefox) is the fastest browser in the world. Rumor has it that Minefield is approximately 10% faster than Google Chrome, which until now was believed to be one of the quickest and neatest browsers.
The major feature that Minefield has over Chrome at this point in time is that it incorporates pretty much all the features of Firefox 3, which include add ons and RSS feeds, two features that Chrome certainly does not have at this point in time. Boasting the FASTEST javascript engine on the planet Minefield is redefining the browser war and can only get better from this point on.
Something to note before you download Firefox Minefield and think to yourself, “this isn’t that fast”. You need to set the “javascript.options.jit.content” boolean value to on or true. You can do this by typing in “about:config” in your address bar at which point you will be taken to another internal page presenting a list of config values and data types. Ctrl + F and search for “javascript.options.jit.content” > right click > toggle.
Now you can start browsing properly.
I haven’t seen any legitimate stats in comparison to other browsers, so I decided to draw up a small comparison.
I tested Minefield against Chrome, Opera, IE 8 and Flock using the yahoo.com webpage.
Minefield - 6.3 Seconds
Opera - 6.4 Seconds
Chrome - 7.8 Seconds
Flock - 9 Seconds
Internet Explorer 8 Beta - 9.1 Seconds
As you can see from the above stats Minefield did prove to be the fastest browser. However, it is in close competition with Opera 9.6. I encourage you all to test against these stats and post your own.
You can download the pre-alpha nightly stable version of Minefield here.
It is currently available for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

I have done some testing of my own
minefield(firefox 3.1b2pre.) 6.3
opera (9.6) 7.5
firefox (3.0.3) 7.3
google chrome (0.3) 6.9
seamonkey (2.0a) 7.1
I did not test internet explorer because I do not have it (do not want it) these are, of coarse different when you don’t clear cache. under regular use (as most people do) just open the browser and go
minefield 8.7
opera 9.2
firefox 10.7
google chrome 8.2
seamonky 9.9
this is on my computer w/ 2g ram etc. so under “normal” use chrome was faster although with custom add ons about:config settings minefield/firefox is my browser of choice
Minefield is smokin!! Btw, I followed your instructs
to change the boolean value—and it was already set
to on.
