Essential plug ins for your browser

8 Must have plug ins for firefox or flock

If you are like me and are constantly active on the internet, I have prepared a list of 8 plug ins I constantly use to manage my browsing habits. These may differ from your own or you may not feel the need to install any of them, but I do recommend them. For the record, I am currently using the flock browser as my primary browser and the interface is slightly different than that of firefox.

Google Toolbar – I currently use the Google toolbar as one of my main plug ins, it gives you some helpful buttons and features, however, I use it primarily for the page rank checker. Although it isn’t completely accurate or updated frequently it is still a convenient way of getting the PR of the site you’re visiting. BY using the flock toolbar customize option I have removed all the unnecessary buttons from it. So I only have the PR checker, Maps and the one click translator. Convenience is VERY important to me and this tool intertwines most of the things I would typically need to open up in another page, into a few buttons.

Stumbleupon Toolbar – This isn’t one for all, however if you are a member of stumbleupon, the SU toolbar is pretty much essential for you to be able to use StumbleUpon effectively. Again I edited out the buttons I didn’t need and left only the buttons I did. (Stumble, thumbs, send to, favourites, friends). If you are unfamiliar with StumbleUpon, basically what it does is track your usage on the web and send you relevant websites that you might like.

WeatherBug – A simple and neat weather display, it sits in the top right of my browser and shows me the forecast for the next 3 days along with some other helpful information. It’s always nice to know what the weather will be..

AdBlock Plus – Probably the best Ad Blocker extension for firefox/flock. It uses hardly any memory and I got mine to shrink up and sit in my status bar. After all, who wants to be bombarded with advertisements.

FoxClocks – Is a nifty little tool that displays the time at your chosen countries. Again, it’s all about convenience, who wants to do a google “time:” search when the time will be continuously shown to you  during the time your browser is on. FoxClocks also sits on the left of my status bar.

YourWebsiteValue Tool – If you are a website enthusiast you tend to want to check the worth of your website and that of your competitors. This tool gives a very clever estimate of the financial worth of the website you’re on. It takes into consideration many different factors, such as, website popularity, links, recognition and a whole palette of other things.

SEO for Firefox – This tool was designed to add more data to Google and Yahoo! to make it easier to evaluate the value and competitive nature of a market. SEO for Firefox pulls in many useful marketing data points to make it easy get a more holistic view of the competitive landscape of a market right from the search results. In addition to pulling in useful marketing data this tool also provides links to the data sources so you can dig deeper into the data. To put it simply it’s an ‘all in one’ SEO plug in for your browser.

Alexa Sparky – Alexa is the leading traffic analysis company, it ranks websites according to how many visitors they get per day that are using the alexa toolbar. The lower the rank the more visitors/traffic that site gets. The alexa toolbar gives users helpful and relevant information about a website. (traffic rank, related links)

In conclusion, I highly recommend you install the plug ins mentioned above, they should greatly enhance your internet browsing experience. If you have any other favorite plug ins or extensions that you use, feel free to mention them in the comments below and I’ll edit them into this post.
